What is your company?

The name of my company is Selina Naturally the home of Celtic Sea Salt® We are a 40-year-old branded product: Celtic Sea Salt ®. The products are packaged in a GMP and organic facility. Celtic Sea Salt® brand started the revolution of sea salt conversion from conventional table salt to sea salt. We specialize in high quality sea salt suppliers all over the world that hold our same quality and intentions. We look for the best salts to achieve the best results for many applications.

 

Tell us why you do what you do in 1 sentence.

The reason I do what I do is because to me being a consumer of products with integrity, this inspires me daily to be the provider of some of these products, and at the same time giving my employees a place to be their self and expand with me.

Your business has many global components, in what ways is entrepreneurship unique in Asheville, when compared to other locations that you’ve seen?

Asheville entrepreneurship is unique compared to other global locations I have visited, in the amount of artisan characteristics combined with authentic ‘making a difference’ attitude. It is apparent that the Asheville entrepreneurs like to give back to a bigger cause. It could be our planet, our children, our women, our homeless. The intention is to see how they can give back

Many Asheville entrepreneurs have a collective goal to do more than sell a product. I admire their mission in being the change they seek in our world today. Using inspiration from their own personal obstacles or goals, they create a product or service that they fully dedicate themselves to. I enjoy being part of this kind of business community.

What 3 valuable lessons about business would you hope to pass onto young women considering becoming an entrepreneur?

  1. Know your numbers inside and out
  2. While you are looking at your numbers make sure you have the thought to be “satisfied with what is and eager for more.”
  3. If you are looking at retiring from your enterprise, plan and focus on the bottom line (EBITA)

How are you a revolutionary?

Because of our brand, we revolutionized the reputation of salt. With decades of negative media against sodium, our work with health professionals have offered the world an alternative. Sodium combined with the natural balance of minerals offers the body a proper function in their cells. This discovery has allowed for change in sea salt’s reputation causing a wave of popularity once consumers realized it’s importance and difference from processed and depleted table salt. With my newsletter we wrote to 80,000 member/subscribers. I began to build my relationships in hopes to explain this revolutionary discovery of sodium and minerals found in Celtic Sea Salt and it’s health benefits. This launched the brand’s trusted reputation lasting generations and still growing strong today.

We have built our brand Celtic Sea Salt® with the mission to change the reputation of sea salt by connecting with professionals (such as Dr. Christian Northrup MD, Dr. Bruce West, Dr. William Campbell Douglass, Dr Axe, Donna Gates Dr. Bob Demaria) looking to recommend natural sources of minerals for health and wellbeing. We have partnered with over 600 doctors to spread the good news there is a salt that is better for you, than processed table salt.

What are the most exciting things about the future of your business?

  1. The thing I am most excited about for the future of the business is my new Women Owned Certification with WBOC. This certification will open opportunities to customers and industries I have been working on for years. We are going to be doing business with the government and other large corporations. I have wanted to get our Celtic Sea Salt brand into the military for years, they deserve good nutrition.
  2. Another exciting thing we are working on is more ingredient and food service business. We have partnered with a SQF certified company to provide sea salt with the same integrity with better price points for the food service industry.
  3. Celtic Sea Salt® is registered in several countries and requested by customers all over the world to bring the brand to their markets. Global expansion is one of the most exciting parts to this growth. I am thrilled when I see my salt sitting on shelves and in kitchens in other countries outside America.
  4. We are exploring an acquisition with a salt supplier, to give us more leverage in keeping our quality control.
